CONSUMER confidence improved in the first quarter in an indication that demand will stay strong and help fuel the economy, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) yesterday reported.
While still negative, the latest -14.7% confidence index (CI) is an improvement from the -20.6% recorded in the fourth quarter of last year and the -23.1% a year ago.
The latest figure mirrored that of households in Germany, France, Taiwan, Thailand and South Korea in the same period, said Rosabel B. Guerrero, director of the central bank's Department of Economic Statistics.
