LOS ANGELES -- Batman, eat your heart out. The midnight release of The Hunger Games in the United States raked in 19.5 million dollars in ticket sales Friday, the most ever for an original film, industry website Deadline.com reported.
Matinee receipts were on par with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II, which racked up an all-time record for an opening weekend of 169.2 million dollars last year in the US, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
