The government is likely to put an additional burden of over Rs 40 billion on electricity consumers on account of recently approved power tariff under fuel adjustment surcharge for four months - October 2011 to January 2012. According to sources in National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), the power distribution companies during the said period sold a total 27.12 billion units of electricity.
