Byline: AMBITION Middleton

LAST August Ashington manager Gary Middleton and his assistant Neil Winskill set themselves a target of improving on last season's eighth-placed finish in the STL Northern League.

With 10 games to go, their ambition has been reviewed and the aim now is to end fifth.

"It's realistic," claimed Middleton after watching his team defeat Shildon on Saturday and move behind the elite four.

"The championship will go to either Sunderland RCA, West Auckland Town, Spennymoor Town or Dunston UTS, and if we can finish immediately below them, it will be a fantastic achievement.
