Although Title IX has been around since 1972 and enforced since 1978, confusion still reigns over compliance and enforcement requirements.
In these days of the super football conferences, women athletes can easily get lost in the process. Because the percent of women head coaches of women's teams has dwindled from 90% in 1972 to an all-time low of less than 43% in 2012, knowledge of and compliance with Title IX is even more crucial.
Dr. Ellen Staurowsky, a former coach and athletic director and now a professor of sport management, discussed some ways to highlight Title IX education at the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) conference, held in Pittsburgh in October 2011.
