I have just read Donald Brown's letter in the Western Daily Press and as a committed Christian, who like him has read the New Testament, would like to offer some thoughts on his comments. A simple internet search for Christian charities will yield at least half a dozen pages of websites of Christian organisations ranging from debt counselling through childcare to a worldwide aviation organisation.

These are national/ international initiatives, but closer to home in Bristol we have the Crisis Centre in St Paul's, various night shelters and street-worker projects, not to mention the number of food banks that have been set up across the city. …
