BEIJING - Chinese officials and Communist Party newspapers have asked the Philippine government to stop inviting oil exploration investors in the contested waters of the West Philippine Sea (also known as South China Sea).

On Thursday, state-owned China Daily branded the Philippines as a "troublemaker" underscoring that recent statements from Philippine officials flare up the issue amid efforts to implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea, an agreement between China and members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
