KCCA Says New Taxi Fees to Stay.

Even as drivers insist that the new Shs155,000 monthly charge on commuter taxis be reviewed, Kampala Capital City Authority yesterday said the levy is standard. The drivers had demanded a revision to Shs100,000 per month, arguing that the new rate is unrealistic.

"You can't charge Shs155, 000 as a lumpsum, forgetting that some days will be spent in the garage without any business. KCCA should not prove to be using this opportunity to press us further," said Mr Mustafa Mayambala, the chairperson Drivers and Conductors Central Association.
