IN the cold light of day, this is a cost-cutting exercise. As part of the plans, victims of violent crime who suffer injuries such as a broken hand or jaw, or burns victims and those suffering minor injuries will now no longer receive payouts from The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA). Those suffering serious injuries will also have their payouts dramatically reduced.
I cannot help but feel that we will be left with a system where individuals are not only the victim of crime, but also the victim of Government policy.
Of course, the courts retain the power to order a convicted party to compensate a victim. …
