WHEN WWF Scotland -- formerly known as the World Wildlife Fund -- told us Aberdeen's Union Street had dangerously high pollution levels we should not have been surprised.

But let's knock on the head any notion of pedestrianising all or part of the street as has been suggested by an official who clearly doesn't live in the city.

'It would be an interesting idea to consider,' he said.

No it wouldn't.

My message to him is this: try to drive from Castlegate to Holburn Junction when Union Street is otherwise occupied, by a parade or a march.
