The Ministry of Health has moved to phase out nursing assistants from both public and private health service provision countrywide to purportedly reduce maternal mortality rate.

The Director-General of Health Services in the Ministry of Health, Dr Jane Aceng, during a regional health marketing conference in Gulu last week, announced that the move is also aimed at restructuring and reviving the health service provision in the country.

Dr Aceng said nursing assistants contribute greatly to the high maternal mortality rate in the country because many of them are entrusted to attend to expectant mothers despite their ill-training background. …
