Jeju Island, South Korea, 7 November: North Korea's uranium enrichment program was not discussed at a recent meeting between Pyongyang and Washington, a US expert on the communist state said Monday [7 November], casting doubts over the prospects of resuming multilateral negotiations on ending the North's nuclear weapons drive.

"Kim Kye-kwan had no negotiating authority, no instruction from Pyongyang, to talk about the uranium program," said L. Gordon Flake, executive director of the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation, an independent organization promoting US-Asia ties.
