MALAYSIA's ageing population will soon become a major challenge to the health system as the country becomes a developed nation by 2020.

Citing a research report in the Asia Pacific Family Medicine, by 2020 the percentage of those 60 years and above will increase up to 9.8 per cent compared with 6.3 per cent in 2000 and 5.7 per cent in 1990.

This will definitely generate new challenges in terms of health and social services.

KPJ International University College of Nursing and Healthcare Sciences (KPJIUC) sees this as an opportunity and has expanded the programmes it offers such as the Professional Certificate in Gerontology Nursing.
