The Central Executive Committee, the second highest decision making organ of the ruling NRM party, has reportedly told President Museveni to back down on defending Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi and "discipline him" because the party's reputation is on the line.

Details emerging from Thursday's two-hour CEC meeting at State House indicate that the persona of Mr Mbabazi and the lack of internal cohesion as party members bay for each other's blood formed the highlight of discussion.
