Sibur (Moscow) says it has entered into a memorandum of extended cooperation with Sinopec on the possible formation of two joint ventures for the production of nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR). The jv's would be based at Krasnoyarsk, Russia and Shanghai. The Krasnoyarsk jv would take over the existing NBR assets of Krasnoyarsk Synthetic Rubbers Plant, a subsidiary of Sibur, and expand that plant's capacity from 36,500 m.t./year, to 56,000 m.t./year. The Shanghai jv would build a new plant with production capacity of about 50,000 m.t./year. Sibur would provide polymerization and finishing technology for the jv's.
