Get up quietly so I don't wake my husband. Mix two tablespoons of oat-bran porridge with hot water and an artificial sweetener, topped with a dollop of no-fat plain yogurt.

Eat breakfast with a cup of English breakfast tea in the office of my Manhattan apartment. Start editing what I wrote yesterday, with a large glass of sparkling water.

Boil some eggs for Bob and get back to writing by hand.
