CHAN Kwong Beng, the long-term sparring partner of World No 1 Lee Chong Wei, added a shine to his status by reaching the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Open in East Kalimantan yesterday.

Kwong Beng, who beat Indonesia No 3 Sony Dwi Kuncoro on Wednesday, defeated Indonesians Riyanto Subagja 21-16, 21-15 and Agus Putra Senatria 21-14, 21-16 to secure a quarter-final berth for the first time in a grand prix event.

Back-up player Misbun Ramdan Misbun also checked into the last eight after compatriot Liew Daren had to concede a walkover in the second round.
