SCOTTISH Secretary Michael Moore will meet council chiefs today to discuss the fate of the country's emergency tug service.

The Lib Dem MP is to hold talks with Western Isles Council chief executive Malcolm Burr and the council's administration leader, Angus Campbell, at Stornoway.

The existing emergency towing vessel contract ended on Friday after UK Shipping Minister Mike Penning revealed that funding was to be withdrawn in a move expected to save GBP32million over four years.
