WHEN she was younger, Lillian Pidgeon knew the Webster family in her home village of Borrowash very well. "And what a pleasure it was to know them," she said.

Tony Entwhistle paid tribute to his mother, Jessie, in Bygones recently. He had told his story to the Ockbrook and Borrowash Historical and Archaeological Society project, Unexamined Lives: the story of the 20th century as it was lived by residents in the Derbyshire village of Borrowash, being compiled by Helen Clark.

In his memories of his family, Tony recalled his aunt, Edna Webster, and remembered watching her star turn as principal boy in the village Christmas …
