A BID to build a scaled-down superstore on the edge of a north-east town is facing a backlash from locals.

Plans were unveiled last month for a new retail unit off Kinmundy Road, Peterhead, next to the town's Tavern Bar.

Falkirk-based developer Portal Holdings wants to transform a 15,000sqft greenfield patch which has lain vacant for decades.

It is hoped the company will be able to persuade a big-name national supermarket chain to take over the outlet, creating about a dozen full and part-time jobs.

The project, however, has run into opposition from homeowners in Kinmundy …
