When you visit other countries, you are faced with the disturbing truth that as a country, Uganda has done so little to tell the story of its past both to its children/grandchildren and visitors. Our memory is rendered to waste as our key preoccupation is to demonise our past. Certainly our political history has a lot to be ashamed of, but that is part of our story.
Moral status aside, there is a lot to learn by letting Ugandans and others know what happened. We should know both our past that we can be proud of, and that whose re-occurrence we must avoid. It is not enough to call Obote a 'swine' and Amin a 'tyrant'; let there be monuments …
