Anti-Qadhafi forces are set to seize Bani Walid, one of Mu'ammar al-Qadhafi's last strongholds, "without resistance" under a deal reached with the town's tribal elders, local commander commanders told Al-Jazeera TV on 3 September.
"We reached a deal. All of Bani Walid has agreed to join the revolution," Abu-Sayf Ghaniyah, an anti-Qadhafi forces' commander from the town, told Al-Jazeera.
"The deal was struck with a group of the town's elders who were not involved in bloodshed," Ghaniyah said.
"Rebels are on the outskirts of the town; they will go into it very soon in a peaceful way," Ghaniyah said.
