Aug. 30--TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE -- In an about-face, the U.S. Air Force will keep two operations centers separate, possibly saving hundreds of jobs linked to Tyndall Air Force Base. The Air Force confirmed it intends to keep Tyndall's 601st Air Space Operations Center (AOC) intact, according a letter sent to U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla. Nelson said Tuesday he called everyone he knew to press the issue of the importance of keeping the 601st AOC remaining intact. "I even called on my friend, the vice president," Nelson said of Joe Biden, a former senator.
