Aug. 30--The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga athletic department closed out the 2010-11 fiscal year with a balanced budget. Despite tough economic times that have led to cuts in funding several years in a row, UTC was able to cover all of its expenses. Aided by an increase in football ticket sales and more than $1 million in directed gifts, UTC's expenditures and revenues were $10,635,558. More than 67 percent of those expenses go toward scholarships and salaries, so in recent years UTC has had to make a lot of cuts in other areas.
