Aug. 26--MARIANNA -- The American Cancer Society for the second consecutive year has named Rep. Marti Coley, R-Marianna, as the organization's Legislator of the Year in the Florida House of Representatives. Coley, a member of the House since 2005, was recognized after her efforts to save cancer research funding during the 2011 legislative session. Coley was instrumental in staving off elimination of the Bankhead-Coley Cancer Research Program and the King Biomedical Research Program, the ACS said in a press release. A combined $17.2 million was ultimately appropriated for the two programs for the current fiscal year. An additional $15 million was appropriated for research …
