Some stroke patients in the South West face the longest waits in the country to see specialist staff, despite medical evidence that longterm recovery is aided by rapid expert help.

Figures just released from the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), show that victims of the condition at the Royal Cornwall Hospital face a wait of up to 19 hours - longer out of hours and way above the national average of three and a half hours.

A spokesman for the Trurobased trust said progress had been made and more was planned thanks to a fundraising appeal.
