A SCALED-DOWN superstore could be built on the edge of a north-east town.

Plans have emerged for a new retail unit off Kinmundy Road at Peterhead, next to the town's Tavern Bar.

Falkirk-based developer Portal Holdings hopes to transform the 15,000sq ft greenfield site, which has lain empty for decades.

The company has now applied for planning permission and, if successful, will enter into talks with national retail chains and try to lure them into the area. It is believed that around a dozen jobs could be created.
