WHO IS HE? Ian Fraser Lemmy Kilmister (born Christmas Eve,1945, in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent. He is best known as bassist, vocalist, songwriter and founding and sole constant member of rock band Motorhead.

HASN'T HE BEEN AROUND FOR A WHILE? He has. Lemmy joined the space rock band, Hawkwind, back in 1971, as a bassist and vocalist. He was fired from the band in 1975 after he was arrested at the Canadian border on drug possession charges even though he was released without charge. He went on to form a new band called B***d with guitarist Larry Wallis and drummer Lucas Fox. When his manager told him a band thus named would never get on Top of the Pops, Lemmy changed it to Motorhead - the title of the last song he wrote for Hawkwind.

HAS THE LINE-UP CHANGED? There have been several changes over the past 36 years. Both Wallis and Fox were replaced by guitarist Fast Eddie Clarke and drummer Phil Philthy Animal Taylor, who were responsible for much of the band's success in the 70s and early 80s. More …
