Mobile Operators should be forced to provide faster mobile broadband in rural areas, according to a consumer advisory group.

The Government plans to sell parts of the radio spectrum next year to raise funds for higher-speed mobile-broadband services known as '4G'. The Communications Consumer Panel says it is the ideal time to upgrade mobile infrastructure in the UK and ensure coverage reaches rural areas.

With around three million people living in rural areas where there is no mobile coverage, the group said the money from the auction could go towards upgrading these so-called 'not-spots'.
