Palanivel to be minister.

PUTRAJAYA: MIC president Datuk G. Palanivel will be made a minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced yesterday at the party's 65th annual general assembly.

With the appointment, MIC will now have two ministers, Palanivel and Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam, the human resources minister.

This is the first in 35 years that MIC has two ministers in the cabinet.

The party also has two deputy ministers.

The last time was in 1976, during the tenure of Najib's father, Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, when he was the country's second prime minister. …
