The BMA will 'strenuously oppose' plans to link Care Quality Commission (CQC) registration to the RCGP practice accreditation scheme.

In response to a consultation on CQC registration, the BMA welcomed plans to put back the deadline for GP registration with the watchdog from April 2012 to April 2013.

But it warned the regulator may still be unable to register all GP practices by 2013, and called for a 'flexible approach'.

The CQC consultation said that the change in timing would give providers 'more time to explore the evidence from available accreditation and quality improvement schemes - including from the RCGP's practice accreditation scheme'.
