July 31--Leading a charge for history lovers and readers, the Hernando-based First Regional Library system is presenting the Civil War Anniversary Series of fall appearances by five noted authors and historians.

Among those slated is best-selling writer Sharyn McCrumb, who will speak Oct. 6 on her latest novel, "The Ballad of Tom Dooley," and her previous work, "Ghost Rider: A Novel," set during the war.

Armchair generals can follow the action Oct. 11 with Dr. Michael Ballard of Mississippi State University speaking on his book, "The Civil War in Mississippi: Major Campaigns and Battles."
