July 31--Upon learning of Wednesday's trade to the Toronto Blue Jays, Colby Rasmus' first impulse was to tell his father, "I'm outta here," followed by a less printable exclamation.

His second was to return to Busch Stadium for the second time that afternoon, though he had gathered his belongings on an earlier trip. Rasmus would miss that night's game with his new team because he thought it important to find his former teammates, shake their hands and hug them.

The two reactions said much about Rasmus' complicated three years playing for an organization that he respected, teammates he came to embrace and a manager he never completely trusted.

Rasmus said little on his way out. He avoided reporters except for a brief interview with Fox Sports Midwest and an exchange with the Post-Dispatch as he exited the clubhouse. He smiled a bit sheepishly but made clear he preferred not to stoke issues …
