July 31--I was thinking: The emotions of Tramaine Williams are all over the place, and who can blame him? The 18-year-old New Haven boxer, the reigning national Golden Gloves champion at 123-pounds, boarded a plane to Mobile, Ala., Saturday to begin competition today at the U.S.A. Boxing Olympic Trials, a double-elimination competition which run through Aug. 6. Williams, a 6-time major national title holder, will face 17-year-old Joet Gonzalez of Glendora, Calif., today, one of four bantamweight bouts that will bring the boxers one step closer to the 2012 Olympic Games in London. "I have a lot of emotions right now ... I'm excited, a little nervous ... you never know what's going to happen," said Williams, affectionately known at the Midget since beginning his boxing career at Ring One as a 53-pound nine year old. "I've thought a lot about what it's taken to get here, but I always felt it would come to this. Now that it's here, it feels great. I'm in great condition and very confident."
