Thirty Seconds to Mars
July 29, 8 p.m.
Mindanao Open Parking, TriNoma Mall, North Ave., Quezon City
Mention anything about the 1990s TV show My So-Called Life and American alternative/pop/rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars might just cancel their one-night gig at the TriNoma Mall parking lot in Quezon City tonight.
Thirty Seconds to Mars front man Jared Leto - who was a popular Hollywood matinee idol prior to forming the band in 1998 - is said to have refused to play at venues if organizers used his name and former celebrity status to promote the band's performances.
Determined to be taken seriously as a musician, Mr. Leto would rather people not mention that he played Jordan Catalano in My So-Called Life before he became the lead singer of Thirty Seconds to Mars.
For Mr. Leto, it is not about being difficult. Rather, it is about focusing on what Thirty Seconds to Mars is all about - and that is music.
