Ill. National Guard goes green with new Shiloh readiness center.

April 29--SHILOH -- Green is color long favored by the Army. And that may be one more reason why the Illinois Army National Guard has embraced energy efficiency.

Guard officials point proudly to their new MidAmerica Readiness Center, just outside the Shiloh gate to Scott Air Force Base, as an example of this commitment.

The $7.1 million Readiness Center opened last fall at 650 Armory Road in Shiloh after more than a year of construction.

"It came in almost $1 million under budget, and it's also saving us money" over the old East St. Louis Armory, said Col. Hank Kuzel, the Guard officer who helped supervise the center's …
