ST. LOUIS _ An early morning announcement that T.J. Oshie had signed a contract with the Blues on Thursday had many of his die-hard fans thrilled. But it was quickly followed by questions about the length of the deal.

One year.

Oshie, who would have become a restricted free agent at 11 a.m. today, agreed to a one-year, $2.35 million extension that will prohibit other NHL clubs from making him an offer. In 12 months, however, the two sides could be going through the same dilemma.

In short, the Blues weren't yet ready to pay the forward top dollar on a long-term contract, and in turn Oshie, who has missed significant time …
