Adjuncts at Saint Xavier University IL can vote to unionize, according to the National Labor Relations Board.

Religious schools have previously been off limits to those seeking equity, due to the separation of church and state as described in the Constitution.

But NLRB director Joseph Barker ruled that Saint Xavier is "not a church-operated institution" and therefore is not sufficiently religious enough to be out of the NLRB's jurisdiction. A 1979 Supreme Court ruling defines the characteristics that make a school religious enough that it would be a violation of the separation of church and state for the NLRB …
