'Big, happy family' adds new generation.

July 21--Twelve-year-old Kimya Shearer looked around at the green and yellow balloons in the courtroom. She saw her three younger sisters dressed in party dresses and her younger brother decked out in a suit and tie. Then she proudly answered the judge's question: What does this all mean? Erie County Family Court Judge Patricia A. Maxwell asked her. "Being a big, happy family," Kimya told the judge. She wasn't kidding. Kimya and her four natural siblings -- Diana, 8; Nathaniel, 7; Danielle, 6; and Tiarra, 2 -- officially became the adopted children of Betty Jean and Eddie L. Shearer on Tuesday afternoon.

This is one big family. …
