A 35-YEAR-OLD man was stabbed in the stomach when he intervened in an argument in a Derby street. The victim underwent emergency surgery after the incident. He remained in a stable condition in hospital last night.

Neighbours said he was attacked by two men, who also set their dog on him.

Police had searched several addresses to find the suspects but had not yet made any arrests.

Sarah Lambert saw the man being knifed in Stanton Street, Normanton, at 12.10am on Saturday.

Her friend Lascelles Taylor, a first-aider, was with her at her home in the street and went to help the injured man.

"If he had not been there he could have died," said Miss Lambert, a 23-year-old mother-of-two.
