MOUNTAINS of food scraps, piles of discarded paper towels and debris left by hundreds of wedding and hotel guests.

It is no wonder a few months ago Meldrum House Country Hotel and Golf Course was sending the contents of four large dustbins to the dump each week. But now the venue has cut what it throws out in half -- and is using innovative ways to raise its green credentials.

Hotel bosses spoke out as new figures revealed thousands of tonnes of rubbish are dumped by the industry each year.
