East Peoria looks at raising sales tax.

June 29--EAST PEORIA -- A sales tax increase is in the works in East Peoria. It might be limited to establishments within the business service district that includes the Bass Pro Shops store now under construction. Then again, the increase could affect most every business in the city.

Those were two of the three possibilities discussed Tuesday in a working session that preceded the regular meeting of the City Council.

"We'll probably look at a fourth and a fifth option," City Administrator Tom Brimberry said afterward. Brimberry is hopeful the council can come to a conclusion in the next 30 days. With the opening of Bass Pro …
