Uganda's new Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi, has warned that all public servants who don't do their job will be shown the door.

PM Mbabazi is not the first nor will he be the last powerful politician to utter this threat.

President Museveni has issued the warning in even sterner terms in the past, but little has changed. Corruption and incompetence remains rife among very many public servants.

In the last 15 years, President Museveni has put emphasis on hiring "loyal cadres" who want the "revolution" that was dreamt of by the ruling NRM government - and remained just a dream - to come true.

This approach of having people who believe in what the government stands for makes sense. …
