June 01--Lightning caused a fire that destroyed a Cloverland home Sunday night on County Highway H in Douglas County. According to Cloverland Fire Chief Eric Saari, lightning struck the home's chimney and basically blew the chimney apart. The heat from the strike started a blaze in the top floor of the two-story home. The Cloverland Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene shortly after 10 p.m. With aid from the Brule, Lakeside and Maple volunteer fire departments, they extinguished the fire in about three hours.
