I WANT to respond to scaremongering about the Government's plans to safeguard two cornerstones of our society - Royal Mail and the Post Office.
People have claimed that our plans put Post Office branches in places like Derby are at threat. This is not true.
I can assure readers that the Post Office is not for sale. There will be no programme of closures. Instead we have announced GBP1.34 billion of funding to maintain and modernise the Post Office network. And in return for the funding Post Office Ltd has to maintain a network of at least 11,500 branches.
The source of the scaremongering appears to be a survey …
