SEPANG: Foreign fishing vessels seized for encroaching into Malaysian waters will not be auctioned off to local fishermen to avoid confusion.

Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar said the Fisheries Department would revoke the licences of local fishermen if they were found to be using foreign vessels.

Noh said this in response to a demonstration on Saturday by over 1,800 fishermen and owners of local vessels, protesting against the use of second-hand foreign registered vessels by Malaysian fishermen in Tanjung Api Kuantan, Pahang.
