Georgian parliament recognizes genocide of Circassians by Russian Empire.

On 20 May, the Georgian parliament recognized the genocide of Circassians by the Russian Empire in the late 19th century, the Georgian Rustavi-2 TV station reported in its 1400gmt news bulletin on the same day.

The decision, which the presenter of the Rustavi-2 news bulletin described as a "historic decision", was made by 95 votes against zero in the presence of representatives of Circassian diasporas from various countries.

"In the name of the Georgian people, we, representatives of the Georgian people, have decided to end the 150 years of suffering of these people [Circassians] and to halt the crime that has tormented these people over the whole of this period, destroying the single nation of the Circassians," Rustavi-2 showed Nugzar Tsiklauri, the head of the parliament group for relations with the North Caucasus …
