THE newly re-constructed Batu Gantong racetrack, which has been a hit with trainers and jockeys, passed its first big test with flying colours over the weekend. The Penang Turf Club (PNTC) did not have to cancel or delay any race despite the heavy downpour. In fact the track held well to the punishing schedule and it was remarkable to see races start on time without any untoward incident.
It had been raining in and around Penang since last Thursday causing parts of the island to be flooded. A total of 6.7 inches of rainfall was recorded from Thursday to Sunday.
