May 06--University of Wisconsin-Superior softball coach Roger Plachta hasn't had to look far to fill out his roster recently. For the past few seasons, he's had a goldmine of talent in his own backyard. The 2011 Yellowjacket softball team is comprised mostly of home-grown athletes. Nine players on the UWS roster graduated from Superior High School, and two more are graduates of Northwestern High School in Maple.
"There's a lot of girls from Superior that I've played with for years, and it makes it fun," said Taylor VanDamme, a 2007 SHS grad. "It's just like playing high school (softball) all over again."
