BUTTERWORTH: A downpour which started at midnight and continued throughout the day caused flash floods in low-lying areas in three districts on the mainland yesterday.

The rain also caused water levels to rise along major roads in many parts of the island, leaving motorists stuck in bumper-to-bumper crawls in the morning rush hour.

On the mainland, more than 100 residents were displaced by flash floods caused by the pre-dawn torrential rain which lasted about four hours.

The situation was compounded by clogged drains in several areas near the Bagan Dalam neighbourhood where water overflowed into residential …
